221 runs from 6 games and the wicket-keeper batsman finished as the second highest run-getter for England under-19 in the 2004 World Cup. This England team led by Samit Patel, had Alastair Cook, Ravi Bopara, Steve Harmison, Tim Bresnan, Luke Wright and Liam Plunkett as the other team mates of Davies.

The Bromsgrove born lad rose through the age group ranks in Worcestershire and moved to Surrey in 2009. The year also coincided with an international call up. He made his T20I and ODI debuts in the same year but was not persisted with for a long time. He was seen as a prospect for the 2011 WC but was dropped in favour of Mathew Prior.

The tour down under ahead of WC 2011 was an eventful one, mostly off the field. Just ahead of the tour he confessed to his team-mates that he was gay and once back from the tour, he became the first openly gay professional cricketer.

After 7 seasons at Surrey, Davies decided to move to Somerset as he refused to renew his contract because Ben Foakes was picked as the first choice keeper for Surrey.
